Siliguri’s Safai workers postpone their protest till February 22

Siliguri, 20th February: The city’s Safai workers have postponed their demonstration as of now. The cleaning staff of Siliguri Municipal Corporation will start working from Sunday with the assurance of the state tourism minister Goutam Deb.

Addressing the media on Saturday, Minister Goutam Deb said that the cleaning workers have several justifiable demands. SMC will be asked to consider these demands. He further said that the protesters have alleged that some workers have been appointed in the garbage disposal department who are paid without doing any work.

On the other hand, the protestors earlier wanted to hold a meeting with Ashok Bhattacharya several times, however, the chairman was unable to hold any meeting. Due to this, the temporary cleaning staff staged a movement. However, the Safai workers will join work from tomorrow. All their demands will be looked into with sympathy, Minister Goutam Deb further added.
