Siliguri, 16th July: The preparations for the historic Durga Puja of Mitra Sammilani began on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra with the traditional ‘Kathamo Puja’ ceremony. The puja, which is set to complete 100 years, continues to preserve the heritage and culture of Siliguri.
Mitra Sammilani’s Durga Puja has been carrying forward the city’s tradition and remains a symbol of the blend of old customs and cultural heritage.
Mitra Sammilani Secretary Sourav Bhattacharya said that the Durga Puja is not just a festival but is deeply connected with Siliguri’s heritage. He added that this year’s theme will highlight the city’s past, when Siliguri had a population of only around 3,000 people.
The history, culture and lifestyle of that era will be showcased through the puja pandal as part of the special centenary arrangements. The centenary celebration has already created excitement and interest among residents.
