Siliguri Welfare Organization demonstrates alleging SMC of negligence regarding dengue outbreak

Siliguri, 18th October: Countering the outbreak of dengue in the city and alleging Siliguri Municipal Corporation of failing to contain the disease, the Siliguri Welfare Organization organized a human chain program in front of their office.

Members of the Siliguri Welfare Organization alleged that the number of dengue-infected cases has been seeing a gradual rise in Siliguri. The disease has also claimed many people’s lives. But despite all this, they alleged Siliguri Municipal Corporation has failed to control dengue. Problems like the disposal of garbage and the cleanliness of drains are not being looked into properly which are some of the prime reasons for the dengue menace. Apart from this, the organization also alleged that the nursing homes and pathology labs in the city are taking advantage of the situation and looting the patients in the name of treatment.

Abhijit Majumdar, a member of the organization, said that the present SMC board has only made promises but completely failed in terms of work. He further said that the lack of measures from the SMC is why their organization is seeking direct intervention from the Chief Minister to control dengue. Apart from this, they are also demanding the authorities check on the nursing homes across the city.
