Siliguri trader arrested for selling and possessing banned firecrackers

Siliguri, 09th November: Based on a tip-off, the Bhaktinagar police launched operations at Ward No. 42 Bhupendra Nagar area and arrested a trader on the charges of selling banned firecrackers. The arrested accused has been identified as Harimadhab Shah.


Reportedly, the police recovered around 22 types of banned crackers from the accused’s shop, the market value of which is estimated to be around 70 to 80 thousand rupees.


It is to be noted that the Calcutta High Court banned the use and sale of firecrackers across the state, this Kali Puja and Chhath Puja keeping in view the present COVID situation.

Accordingly, the police launched operations in different parts of the city to prevent the sale of firecrackers. The arrested accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court today.
