Siliguri: Teacher arrested for alleged sexual harassment of minor students under guise of tuition

Siliguri, 08th May: A case of alleged sexual harassment and blackmail of minor students by a teacher under the guise of tuition has surfaced in the Pradhan Nagar police station area of Siliguri.

Police have arrested the accused teacher, Pritam Ghosh (43), in connection with this matter. The accused is a resident of Jhankar More and provided tuition in the Samar Nagar area. He is a History teacher at a government high school in Champasari.

It is alleged that he blackmailed students by threatening them with failure in exams and sent obscene messages and photos to their phones. Subsequently, he allegedly subjected them to physical exploitation during tuition.

Following the disclosure of the matter by the students, local residents and parents staged a protest in the Samar Nagar area.

Upon receiving the information, police and central forces reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The accused was arrested based on a written complaint by a victim student.

Police have registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act and produced him in court.

The police are seeking remand for the investigation of his mobile phone and further interrogation.

According to police sources, the accused is married, and the investigation is ongoing with the recording of statements from other students.
