Siliguri, 28th June: Numerous complaints related to alleged land grabbing, illegal construction and police inaction were raised during the ‘Sorashori Shankar’ programme held on Sunday at the Margaret (S.N.) English School ground in Siliguri.
Residents from various wards attended the public grievance programme and presented their concerns before Siliguri MLA and State Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh. Several complainants alleged that private land in different parts of the city had been encroached upon with the backing of influential individuals and Trinamool leaders. Allegations were also made regarding illegal construction activities being carried out in violation of regulations.
The grievances extended beyond land-related issues, with complainants also naming several Trinamool leaders and former councillors. They alleged that illegal encroachments and unauthorized construction continued in various localities due to political influence. Multiple complaints were also submitted regarding issues under the Pradhan Nagar Police Station area.
After hearing the grievances, Shankar Ghosh said addressing public concerns remains his top priority. He announced that future editions of the ‘Sorashori Shankar’ programme would be held near the Pradhan Nagar, Bhakti Nagar and Siliguri police stations, with police personnel present to hear complaints directly and facilitate prompt action.
He also urged residents to report their grievances directly to the police so that necessary steps can be taken without delay.
