Siliguri, 22nd July: Siliguri Metropolitan Police achieved a major success by foiling two separate robbery plots in a single night and arresting 11 alleged miscreants during joint operations by Bhakti Nagar Police Station and Ashighar Outpost.
According to police, late on July 21, information was received about some individuals allegedly planning robberies in Lower Bhanunagar and Telipara areas. Following the information, two police teams conducted raids at separate locations.
In the first operation near PC Mittal Bus Terminus area, police arrested Manajit Roy (45), Anil Roy (19), Samir Barman (23), Roni Das (22) and Papai Roy (25). Police recovered several tools from their possession, including an iron cutter, hammer, hacksaw blade, screwdriver and pliers.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted that they were preparing to commit a robbery at a house in Lower Bhanunagar. Police stated that some of their associates managed to escape after getting alerted.
In the second operation, Ashighar Outpost police conducted a raid at Tharughati area and arrested Bikram Chandra Roy (38), Bijay Sarkar alias Mangal (23), Abhishek Adhikari (24), Shiba Das (26), Anand Das (24) and Somnath Moitra (24). Police recovered an iron rod, a large knife, torch and other items from them.
Police said the second group also allegedly admitted to planning a robbery at a house in Telipara.
All 11 accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Wednesday. Police have started further investigation into the case.
