Siliguri Municipal Corporation will oppose NPR: Ashok Bhattacharya

Siliguri, 20th January: Addressing the reporters, today, the Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, Ashok Bhattacharya, informed that the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) will now take their stand against the National Population Register (NPR) to the streets.


It was reported that the Central Government has given instructions to implement NPR in all the Municipal Corporations of West Bengal. The Mayor stated that the current board of the Municipal Corporation, run by the Leftists, would not accept this directive. The State Government has been informed in writing, in this context. He stated that the NPR is somehow associated with the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 (CAA). Therefore, they will take to the streets to oppose it.
