Siliguri, 22nd July: Tension erupted in the Telipara area of Dabgram II Anchal over the construction of a mobile tower, following objections raised by local residents.
According to residents, a company’s mobile tower was being constructed on the rooftop of a house belonging to local resident Manik Pal. They claimed that Pal is currently staying in Assam due to work, while the construction work was being supervised by another resident, Naba Pal.
Residents stated that controversy had earlier surfaced in the area regarding mobile tower construction. They alleged that the tower was being built illegally without following proper rules and expressed concerns over its possible impact on the health of children and elderly residents.
On Wednesday, angry residents gathered at the spot and attempted to reach the rooftop after breaking the lock of the house. They also demanded to meet the person supervising the construction work. As the situation became tense, a construction worker present at the site was also surrounded by protesters.
After receiving information, police from Ashighar Outpost reached the spot and brought the situation under control. A construction worker was detained and taken to the police station.
Local residents have already submitted a written complaint at Ashighar Outpost. Police have started an investigation after examining the allegations.
