Siliguri: Honest auto driver returns passenger’s bag with cash and important documents

Siliguri, 27th December: In an exemplary show of honesty, an auto-rickshaw driver returned a bag left behind by a passenger in Siliguri on Sunday evening.

The 23-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Siddharth Roy is a resident of Sunkanta Pally, Gas Godown – Darjeeling More. The bag he returned contained cash, debit cards, Aadhar card, Voter card, driving licence, PAN card and house keys.

According to the information, Siddharth picked up the woman passenger from Darjeeling More and dropped her at City Centre, Matigara at around 5 pm in the evening. On his way back, Siddharth stopped for a while on the roadside for some work. This is when he noticed the bag.

“I cannot read. So when I saw the bag, I rushed home to my elder brother. We found a wallet in the bag containing ID cards. With the help of the information in the documents, we were able to retrieve the passenger’s contact number. We called and her bag was returned,” the young auto driver said.

“I had lost all hopes. All odds were against me as my bag (black in colour) was in the back seat and I knew the driver was not aware of it. This is for the first time in my life that I got my lost belongings, that too within just 2 hours. This experience has definitely restored my faith in humanity,” the passenger said with a wide smile. Meanwhile, the other auto-rickshaw drivers lauded Siddharth for his honestly.

Siliguri Times salute him for his exemplary show of honesty!
