Siliguri grapples with disruption as strong storms and heavy rain cause tree falls

Siliguri, 20th May: A severe thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall wreaked havoc on the city today, severely disrupting daily life. The strong winds and downpours resulted in the toppling of numerous trees across different areas of Siliguri. The powerful gusts began to sweep through the city during the afternoon hours. Reports of trees falling over some houses also surfaced. 


Several major roads, including Bidhan Road, Sevoke Road, and Hospital More, were particularly affected, with multiple trees blocking the way. The Siliguri Municipal Corporation promptly initiated efforts to clear the roads and normalize the situation. Additionally, a tree falling onto a house also surfaced in the Fuleswari area. 

Manik Dey, Mayor-in-Council and Ward No. 13 Councilor, stated the trees fell across nine different locations in the city. He added that immediate action has been taken and priority has been given to clearing trees obstructing the main arterial roads to restore normalcy as quickly as possible.
