Siliguri Cricket Lovers Welfare Organization stages protest demanding international standards cricket stadium

Siliguri, 16th December: The Siliguri Cricket Lovers Welfare Organization staged a sit-in protest demanding a cricket stadium of international standards in Kawakhali. The organization members staged a sit-in protest near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue today.

State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to arrive in Siliguri today. Hence, they took to the streets to present their demands to the CM. Both experienced and young players of the city participated in the protest.

It is to be noted that Ashok Bhattacharya had earlier arranged land for the construction of a cricket stadium in Matigara’s Uttarayan. Even though cricket leagues were held there for a few years, it has stopped now. Hence, the Siliguri Cricket Lovers Welfare Organization has been constantly raising voices demanding a cricket stadium of international standards.

The organization has already submitted a memorandum to minister Goutam Deb in this regard.

Former cricketer, as well as association president Manoj Verma, claimed that the CM has already done a lot of developmental work in Siliguri. He further hopes that their demand will be looked into which will popularize cricket across the city.
