Jalpaiguri, 27th April: The cultivators of the Sadar block of Jalpaiguri are devasted seeing watermelon crops destroyed due to the recent inopportune occurrence of rainfall and hailstorm.
Reportedly, Rabin Choudhary, Gopal Mandal and Nepal Biswas together had cultivated watermelon crops on seven bighas of land in Jalpaiguri’s Spar number 04. They had hoped for profit after investing 40-50 thousand rupees in the said cultivation. However, the entire watermelon farm was destroyed by the hail storm.
While all the crops have been destroyed, the farmers apparently do not possess the money to start over. The unforeseen event has left most of the farmers in deep agony.
