Rajganj, 03rd June: A shocking incident unfolded in Chilkapara of Belakoba under Rajganj block, where a man allegedly hacked his father-in-law to death following a family dispute. The deceased has been identified as Mrigen Roy, while the accused is Bipul Roy, a resident of Malivita and son of Swapan Roy.
According to family sources, Bipul had married Mrigen Roy’s daughter, Sourabhi Roy, about a year ago. The couple has a seven-month-old child. However, frequent quarrels led Sourabhi to return to her parental home a month and a half ago.
On Monday night around 10 p.m., Bipul reportedly visited his in-laws’ house to take his child, which led to an altercation. During the argument, he allegedly attacked and killed Mrigen Roy with a sharp weapon.
Locals caught and assaulted Bipul after the incident. Police from the Belakoba outpost later arrived, rescued the accused, and took him to the hospital for treatment.
Anima Roy, the wife of the deceased, said the marriage had been arranged following social customs after her daughter fell in love with Bipul. She alleged that Bipul used to torture her daughter and expressed disbelief that he could commit such a crime. Both Anima and her daughter Sourabhi demanded that Bipul be given the death penalty.
