Sand mafia sets police vehicle on fire in Phansidewa

Siliguri, 24th March: Sensation prevailed near Phansidewa’s Chenga River adjacent to Ghoshpukur after the sand mafia along with the local villagers set the police vehicle on fire during the dark hours of Thursday. 


Reportedly, the incident took place while a team of police, acting on a tip-off, launched a campaign during the sand mafia’s quarrying spree. When the police attempted to stop the smuggling, the villagers and the sand smugglers set the police vehicle on fire. One person has been injured in the said incident.

On receiving the news of the incident, the Additional Superintendent of Police, SDPO, and other police officers of Darjeeling District Police reached the spot. Meanwhile, no one has been arrested in the said incident so far. The police are probing the entire matter.
