Residents of Bhanu Nagar staged road blockade demanding repairment of dilapidated road

Siliguri, 27th March: The road of Bhanu Nagar Ward No. 43 is lying in a dilapidated condition for the last 7 years. People commuting along with the local people are facing a lot of trouble due to the condition of the road. Locals alleged that they have applied and urged several times to the administration to repair the road, but the people have only received assurances and no effort. No work has been done to repair the road. With the growing number of potholes on the road, people’s concerns are also growing. The problems become more acute during the rainy season as accidents become quite prone in the area. 


In protest against the same, residents of Ward No. 43 expressed their anger through protest by staging a road blockade in Bhanu Nagar. During this, people blocked the road by placing bamboo and stones. The roadblock created trouble for the commuters, especially school buses, and workers. The local people said that the road is lying in a dilapidated condition for the last 7 years and no measures have been taken to repair it by the administration. They alleged that at the time of the elections, the administration promised to repair the road in three months. But more than a year has passed, but the said road is lying in the same condition.

The residents said they will only withdraw the protest once a date is fixed to repair the road. As per the information, the North Bengal Development Department will begin the repair work on the road. A few days ago, Mayor Goutam Deb spoke to North Bengal Development Minister for road construction and repair and the work on the said road will soon start.
