Red Alert in Teesta River, rains flood parts of Jalpaiguri

Siliguri, 10th July: Red alert has been issued starting from Teesta’s Dohmani to Indo-Bangladesh border area.


According to sources, the Irrigation Department has issued a red alert in the aforementioned area after the water level in Teesta River surpassed the normal level due to continuous downpour (50.40 mm) since the past 24 hours. The possibility of heavy rain has also been predicted by the Meteorological Department.

Meanwhile, multiple places in the city including Mahamaya Para, Chunilal Road, Harijan Bastyand Batasa lane are flooded with water after heavy rain lashed out in Jalpaiguri. Waterlogged localities and pedestrians wading through knee-deep or waist-high water were common sights in the city.


The residents of the Jalpaiguri Ghumti-3 area, in particular, have been severely affected as multiple houses in are half-submerged in the rainwater.
