Rajganj Kukurjan Mag Tea factory laborers stage protest demanding employee retention

Rajganj, 18th June: After several female laborers of the Rajganj Kukurjan Mag Tea factory were fired from their job, their co-workers staged a protest demanding the retention of the female employees.


As per the information, around 65 permanent and temporary workers are employed in the aforementioned tea factory. The factory authorities, on Thursday, allegedly fired 16 female laborers from their job. Following this, their co-workers raised voice against the step taken and stated that they too will stop working if the decision is not reversed.

In this context, the women laborers stated, “We have been working in the factory for the past 13 years. However, the manager suddenly told us not to come for work anymore”. They alleged that the factory owner fired the local women laborers and employed other workers from outside.


Mosharaf Hossain, president of the TDPW Rajganj branch committee, stated that the owners have deliberately taken such an initiative. The matter will be reported to the district deputy labor commissioner soon.

On the other hand, factory manager Dipankar Majumder claimed that some laborers have been temporarily laid off for a few days due to the low supply of raw leaves in the factory. However, a huge quantity of leaves has started destroying as several laborers stopped performing their work.
