Prime suspect of bird smuggling gang arrested in Rajganj

Rajganj, 04th February: The Forest officials arrested the prime suspect of a bird smuggling gang from Goramore of Fulbari-1 Gram Panchayat. The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammed Wakeel.


Sanjay Dutta, the Head of the North Bengal Special Task Force of Baikunthapur Forest Department and the Ranger of Belakoba Range, stated that an international smuggling gang was smuggling birds. Several members of the said gang were arrested many times, but the prime suspect was still absconding.

However, based on a tip-off, Mohammed Wakeel was arrested from South Colony, on Monday night. The Forest officials have recovered 11 parrots from his possession. Sanjay Dutta stated that the accused has admitted that he used to smuggle birds of various species including Parrot, Myna, to various states including Nepal. The accused was presented in the Jalpaiguri court, today.
