Police arrest four with 43 kg of cannabis in Siliguri

hSiliguri, 03rd January: Siliguri Metropolitan Police have achieved another success in foiling the smuggling plan of cannabis. On Monday evening, the undercover cops of the NJP police station recovered a huge amount of cannabis by conducting an operation in the Putimari area adjacent to Fulbari Gajoldoba Canal Road. Four people arrested in the said incident have been identified as Pavitro Barman, Nilkamal Sarkar, Nirmal Das, and Debashish Sarkar. All four are said to be residents of Cooch Behar. 


According to the information, the said four people from Cooch Behar were carrying cannabis in a four-wheeler vehicle and were heading to Nadia. On receiving a tip-off, the NJP police launched a campaign in the said area and intercepted the said four-wheeler. During the search, 43 kg of cannabis was recovered from a hidden compartment in the vehicle. The market value of the recovered cannabis has been estimated at around Rs 5 lakh.

Today the four accused were produced in the Jalpaiguri court. The police are probing the entire matter.
