Siliguri, 24th July: Several people expressed outrage and staged a protest outside the premises of Siliguri’s Indoor Stadium against setting up a Safe House in the stadium premises. Some locals gheraoed the administrative officials yesterday and staged demonstrations. They claimed that the stadium does not have proper infrastructure and would cause a lot of inconveniences if turned into a safe house.
In this context, Minister Goutam Deb and Trinamool District President Ranjan Sarkar alleged that people are being misled in this regard. Deb pointed out that some Left leaders and activists were also spotted yesterday.
Taking a jibe at the Ward Co-ordinators, Deb stated that they should remember they are nominated on behalf of the state government.
District Trinamool President Ranjan Sarkar alleged that some municipality workers are being spotted attending their political party programmes instead of performing their duty. Sarkar maintained that the matter has been reported to the commissioner of SMC.
On the other hand, Shankar Ghosh, a member of the administrative board of SMC, stated that people should first understand the concept behind creating a safe house and should cooperate with the district and health administration.
