Peaceful rally taken out by the city’s safai workers, 14-point memorandum issued

Siliguri, 23rd February: The Uttar Banga Safai Karmachari Samiti protested for a long time demanding job permanency and a pay hike. Due to the strike, the city’s cleanliness work was discontinued and the common people faced trouble due to the stench from the untended garbage.

This time, a peaceful rally was taken out by the Safai workers in support of the same demands. The Maharishi Valmiki Seva Sangha and the Akhil Bharatiya Safai Mazdoor Congress organized the rally, which commenced from Baghajatin Park and concluded at the SDO office through Siliguri Municipal Corporation. A 14-point memorandum was then handed over to Ashok Bhattacharya and the Sub-divisional officer (SDO).

On behalf of the organization, Manoj Kumar Raut said that Bhattacharya has completely agreed to their 14-point demand. However, if their demands are still not met, the organization will no more go into any form of violent demonstration.
