Naxalbari, 28th December: The police successfully arrested a tractor driver on charges of illegal extraction of sand in Naxalbari. The accused has been identified as Dilip Mahanto, a resident of the Chanapatti area located in the Atal village of Naxalbari.
According to reports, the police officials halted the sand-laden vehicle while crossing the road. Investigations revealed that the driver was unable to produce valid documentation for the sand extracted from the river banks of the Chenga River in Atal.
Subsequently, the police arrested the accused driver and seized the vehicle used to carry out the illegal activity. On Thursday the accused was produced before the Siliguri Court for legal proceedings.
