One arrested with more than 1 kg of gold from a train stationed at NJP

Siliguri, 22nd January: Based on a tip-off, the DRI conducted a campaign and arrested a person with 1.660 kilos of gold biscuits at the NJP railway station. The arrested has been identified as Govind Tukaram Chavan and is a resident of Maharashtra.


As per the report, the DRI team campaigned in the Sampark Kranti train stationed at NJP railway station, late last night. During the course, DRI officials searched Govind Tukaram Chavan and found 10 gold bars from him, weighing around 1.660 kilos. The market value of the recovered gold is estimated to be 55 lakh rupees.

The DRI today produced the accused in Siliguri court, where the judge directed him to be taken into judicial custody for 14 days. According to government advocate Trideep Saha, the accused had brought the gold from Myanmar and was taking it to Delhi for smuggling. The DRI is investigating the entire case.
