Siliguri, 30th October: Bhakti Nagar police have arrested a youth identified as Toofan Roy, a resident of Dada Bhai Colony under Ward No. 43 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), for possession of brown sugar and banned cough syrup.
Reports indicate that Toofan Roy arrived at the P.C. Mittal bus stand on Tuesday night intending to deliver a bag containing brown sugar and numerous bottles of banned cough syrup. Acting on a tip-off, the police launched an operation, detained Roy on suspicion, and conducted a search.
During the search, brown sugar and a significant number of banned cough syrup bottles were found inside Roy’s bag, with an estimated market value in the lakhs.
According to police sources, Roy had attempted to smuggle the drugs by posing as a passenger, but he was arrested before completing the delivery. The accused was presented in Jalpaiguri court on Wednesday, and an investigation into the case is currently underway.
