One arrested with 12 kg of cannabis in Siliguri

Siliguri, 15th October: The surge in the demand for drugs has increased once again in Siliguri during the Puja season. Intoxicants are being imported from outside during the festival of Diwali and Kali Puja. But the Siliguri Metropolitan Police are also gearing up to put an end to such activities and businesses of drugs. 


In this regard, Bhakti Nagar police station has achieved a big success to end such activity on Friday night. Police arrested a person from PC Mittal bus stand with a huge quantity of cannabis. The accused has been identified as Dipankar Sarkar, a resident of Cooch Behar. It has been learned that Dipankar had reached Siliguri by bus from Cooch Behar with the cannabis hidden inside two bags, on Friday. He was wandering around in PC Mittal carrying the bags to peddle the drugs. 

On receiving a tip-off, the police of Bhakti Nagar police station went undercover and launched an operation in the said area and apprehended Dipankar. While conducting a search, huge quantity of cannabis was recovered from two of the bags which were in his possession. Reportedly, around 12 kg of cannabis has been recovered from Dipankar of which market value has been estimated at lakhs of rupees. Taking legal action in the presence of Deputy Magistrate Suraj Thakuri, Bhakti Nagar police station arrested Dipankar Sarkar by registering a case under the NDPS Act. The accused was produced in the Jalpaiguri court today. Police are probing the whole matter.
