Siliguri, 15th January: A man was arrested by the police on charges of stealing a vehicle under the guise of renting it. The incident led to the arrest of Rohit Roshan Mandal and the stolen vehicle has also been recovered.
According to reports, a pickup van with a Bihar registration number was stolen in Siliguri on January 13. The vehicle owner and driver, Sameer Thakur, filed a complaint with Pradhan Nagar Police the following day.
Subsequently, the police initiated an investigation and, using GPS tracking, recovered the vehicle from the banks of the Mahananda River near Gulma within hours. In addition, the police used mobile tower location data to arrest the accused, Rohit Roshan Mandal, in the Junction area. Rohit, a resident of Bihar, had placed an order with Sameer Thakur to transport goods from Siliguri to Bihar.
After arriving in Siliguri, Sameer Thakur and Rohit, along with two other accomplices, stopped to have a meal in Mallaguri near a hotel. During this, Rohit and the others made off with Sameer’s vehicle. The two accomplices of Rohit managed to escape and are currently being searched for. Rohit has been presented in Siliguri court on Wednesday, and the police are continuing their investigation.
