Om Prakash Mishra announced as TMC candidate for Siliguri assembly, Nantu Paul expresses displeasure

Siliguri, 05th March: All India Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, today, announced the names of 291 candidates who will be contesting in the much-anticipated state assembly election. As per the list, Om Prakash Mishra has been declared as the candidate for the Siliguri assembly.

Hours after the announcement, Trinamool leader Nantu Paul, addressing the media expressed his displeasure over Om Prakash Mishra being selected as the Siliguri assembly candidate.

Backing his thoughts of rather having a “Bhoomiputra” from the constituency, Nantu Paul fears the common people will not be able to connect with an outsider. Especially when he will be contesting against heavyweight CPIM leader and present Siliguri MLA Ashok Bhattacharya.

He even gave the example of Bhaichung Bhutia, who earlier joined the All India Trinamool Congress and unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Darjeeling constituency. Nantu Paul asserted that there is a lot of work left to be done for the development of Siliguri and that he is doubtful whether an outsider can accomplish them.
