‘No water, No vote,’ says Lal Jhamela Basti residents

Nagrakata, 04th April: After numerous complaints regarding inadequate water supply in many parts of the village was going unheard, the residents of Lal Jhamela Basti of Looksan Gram Panchayat under Nagrakata Block have decided to boycott the upcoming state assembly polls if authorities fail to address their issue before elections.


Under the leadership of President Diwash Sharma and Secretary Mann Bahadur Rai, the villagers resigned from all political parties including the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM). A large number of local residents gathered with placards claiming their demands for basic amenities.

According to Ashik Kujur panchayat member and a local resident, alleged that the administration is well aware of their problems. Despite this, their grievances have not been heard yet. He further stated that the power supply has also been cut off in the area due to which the supply of water has also stopped.


The locals put forward various demands including land lease, construction of a dam in the river. They warned of boycotting the polls if their demands are not met soon.
