Siliguri, 20th March: The NJP police, based on a tip-off, launched operations near the Thakurnagar Railgate area under Dabgram-1 region and arrested a man with firearm, on Friday night. The arrested accused has been identified as Bishwanath Chakraborty, a resident of Baribhasa Madani Bazar.
Reportedly, a 7.65 mm pistol was seized from his possession.According to police sources, Chakraborty is said to have various past criminal records. He was sent to the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the frequent recovery of firearms in the city before the elections in Bengal has added more to the concerns of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police.
