Nirbhaya case: Supreme Court dismisses Pawan Kumar Gupta’s Special Leave Petition

New Delhi, 20th January: Supreme Court dismissed the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by Pawan Kumar Gupta, one of the convicts of the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case. The court rejected the appeal on the basis of not finding any fresh ground in the matter.

Pawan had earlier filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision that he was a juvenile at the time of the incident in 2012 and the High Court refused to accept the same.

In this context, Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi said, “Their tactic to delay hanging has been rejected. I’ll be satisfied only when they are hanged on February 1. Just like they are delaying it one after other, they must be hanged one by one so that they understand what it means to toy with law,”

It is to recall that the Delhi’s Patiala House court issued a death warrant against the rape and brutality of Nirbhaya and has fixed February 1 for the hanging of the four convicts. Besides Gupta, the other three convicts in the case are Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, and Akshay Kumar Singh.
