Siliguri, 25th March: Sensation prevailed after residents of a village near Chenga River, Ashish Bakla (25) and Sanjay Tirkey (32), were arrested on Friday and charged with vehicle arson.
As per the report, a team of police from Ghoshpukur Out Post, acting on a tip-off, launched a campaign during the sand mafia’s quarrying spree near Phansidewa’s Chenga River adjacent to Ghoshpukur, on Thursday night. In response to the police’s interference, the villagers and the sand smugglers set the police vehicle on fire. One person was also injured in the said incident.
The duo was produced in the Siliguri subdivisional court today, where the police sought remand for further investigation.
