Naxalbari, 28th May: Tension prevailed throughout Wednesday night at Naxalbari Rural Hospital following the death of a newborn, with the family alleging serious negligence in treatment. The situation escalated as relatives of the mother staged protests inside the hospital premises, prompting police intervention to restore order.
According to family sources, a woman from Station Para in Naxalbari was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday evening after experiencing labour pain. The family alleged that despite repeated calls for doctors and nurses as the pain intensified, there was no adequate medical response.
They further claimed that due to the delay in care, the delivery took place on the hospital bed itself. The newborn reportedly cried immediately after birth but died shortly thereafter, triggering outrage among family members.
Angry relatives accused on-duty doctors and nursing staff of negligence and staged protests inside the hospital. As the situation turned tense, Naxalbari police were called in and brought the situation under control.
Officials from the Naxalbari block health department also visited the hospital following the incident. The family has submitted a written complaint against the attending doctor and demanded suspension along with legal action.
The family maintained that both mother and child were in stable condition at the time of admission, but alleged that lack of timely treatment led to the tragic outcome. Police and health authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.
