Naxalbari, 24th July: Maniram Gram Panchayat under Naxalbari block got a new Pradhan after an election was held for the post on Friday. The Deputy (Upa) Pradhan Ranjan Chik Baraik was elected as the new Pradhan.
The post of Pradhan fell vacant after former Trinamool Congress board Pradhan Gautam Ghosh resigned on June 29, citing health issues. As per Panchayat rules, the election was conducted in the presence of block officials.
During the board formation process, the new Pradhan was elected in the presence of 10 members. BJP Panchayat members were reportedly absent during the election.
After the election, the newly elected Pradhan was felicitated with a flower garland. The new Pradhan said that he would work for the people and continue the good work done by the former Pradhan. He also mentioned that he would step down from the post of Deputy Pradhan in the future.
According to information, Maniram Gram Panchayat had 18 seats in the 2022 Panchayat elections, with Trinamool Congress winning 12 seats, BJP securing 5 seats and an independent candidate winning one seat.
Following the resignation of two TMC members, one independent member, the resignation of one BJP member and the death of another BJP member, the Panchayat currently has 13 members.
