Naxalbari, 26th July: The Land and Land Revenue Department in Naxalbari has collected ₹7 lakh in revenue within three months of the new government taking office, nearly matching the block’s annual collection recorded during the previous administration.
The surge in revenue collection follows directives issued by Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister, Agnimitra Paul to strengthen revenue generation soon after assuming office. According to officials, the department has intensified its collection drive by enforcing commercial levies, conducting inspections, and realizing pending commercial fees.
Land and Land Revenue Officer Dipanjan Majumder said the department has shifted its focus towards strengthening revenue collection through enforcement measures and improved monitoring. He stated that while the annual revenue collection during the previous financial year stood at around ₹9–10 lakh, ₹7 lakh has already been collected in just three months under the new administration despite several operational challenges.
Reacting to the figures, Naxalbari Mandal BJP President, Sadhan Chakrabarty alleged that the improved revenue collection exposes irregularities during the previous regime. He claimed that the current figures indicate government revenue was not fully reaching the state exchequer earlier due to alleged syndicate operations and cut-money practices.
