Naxalbari, 24th July: A turtle rescued from a residential area was handed over to the Forest Department by a family in Naxalbari’s Babupara area.
According to reports, due to rising water levels in rivers during the monsoon season, wild animals from forest areas are often entering human settlements. The turtle had reportedly drifted into the locality with the river water.
After the water level receded, the turtle was found and rescued by the family. Later, the Forest Department was informed, following which a rescue team reached the spot and took custody of the turtle.
The turtle will be released back into a deep forest area, according to the Forest Department.
