MP Raju Bista visits landslide-hit villages of Mirik, accuses CM of playing politics over crisis in Hills

Mirik, 23rd October: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, today, visited various landslide affected villages in Mirik including Soureni. He was accompanied by Kurseong MLA BP Bajgain, BJP District leaders and other alliance party leaders and workers.

The MP slammed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not uttering a single word of consolation in favour of the people of the hills during such a trying time. He accused Banerjee of playing politics over crisis in the hills.

Taking a jibe at the state government, MP Bista stated that the village currently has houses of around 45 families, who are at the risk of being washed away in a landslide. As of now, the villagers are currently taking shelter in the factory.

“Despite the devastating landslides of 2015, which saw an entire village being washed away in Tingling, the West Bengal government has not taken any initiative to study the geographic conditions of the region and rehabilitation of vulnerable villages,” Bista alleged.

The MP further assured of taking up the issue of the village with the centre, state, local administration and Tea Garden owners to seek possible rehabilitation of the houses at the earliest. Furthermore, he maintained that he will be requesting the deployment of the NDRF team in the region.
