Siliguri, 24th June: A motorcyclist lost his life in a tragic road accident near Baneswar More on Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass on Wednesday. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
According to local sources, the biker was travelling from Baneswar More towards Ashighar More when the accident occurred. Shortly after crossing Baneswar More, he came under the wheels of a lorry and died on the spot.
CCTV footage of the incident reportedly shows that the rider was talking on a mobile phone while riding the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Police are investigating whether these factors contributed to the mishap.
Following the accident, personnel from the Ashighar Sub-Traffic Guard and Ashighar Outpost rushed to the spot. The body was recovered and sent to Siliguri District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the lorry driver fled the scene after the accident and remains absconding. Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and trace the driver.
