Mother and son electrocuted to death in Siliguri’s Ward No. 42

Siliguri, 25th June: A woman and her son died in a tragic electrocution incident in Ward No. 42 of Siliguri on Wednesday night, triggering shock and grief in the locality. The deceased have been identified as Pramila Roy and her son Raju Roy.

According to reports, a short circuit inside their house allegedly caused electricity to spread throughout the premises. During the incident, Pramila Roy, who was specially abled, came into contact with the iron grill of a window and was electrocuted. Seeing his mother in danger, Raju Roy rushed to rescue her but was also electrocuted. Both died on the spot.

In the same incident, another woman from the locality sustained burn injuries due to electric shock. She was immediately admitted to a nursing home on Sevoke Road, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

On receiving information about the incident, police from Bhakti Nagar Police Station and personnel from the electricity department reached the spot. The bodies were later recovered and sent to Siliguri District Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area. Former Councillor Shobha Subba also visited the spot and took stock of the situation.
