Siliguri, 01st June: Expressing his discontent over the deteriorating condition of the idol of Thakur Panchanan Barma, Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh voiced his anger and took matters into his own hands. Today, in an effort to address the situation, MLA Shankar Ghosh, along with party workers Shikha Chatterjee and Anandamoy Barman, joined forces to clean the statue and the surrounding weeds and bushes near Naukaghat More.
Upon arriving at the location, MLA Shankar Ghosh conveyed his disappointment, expressing that he had initially come there to address the drinking water issue. However, he was disheartened to find the idol of Manishi Panchanan Barma, which holds great pride for North Bengal, covered by weeds. He stated that resolving such a significant issue would require time and effort. Nevertheless, as responsible citizens, they had undertaken the initiative to clean the statue, recognizing that everyone bears the responsibility for their surroundings.
MLA Shankar Ghosh targeted both the Siliguri Municipal Corporation and the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA), highlighting their inability to prioritize and allocate sufficient time to address the matter. He further emphasized the need for proactive action, which compelled him to take matters into his own hands.
Responding to the allegations made by MLA Shankar Ghosh, Saurabh Chakraborty, Chairman of the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority, addressed the issue over the phone. Chakraborty expressed that it was unjust for MLA Shankar Ghosh to depict the planted greenery as weeds and jungle. He explained that they had planted a variety of plants and grass in the area. He mentioned that a consistent water supply is provided, and security guards have been deployed to ensure the maintenance of the park. Chakraborty further noted that the grass is regularly trimmed and well-maintained, and various events have been organized within the park.
