Alipurduar, 27th July: The Disaster Management Department personnel successfully retrieved the body of a 75-year-old man, identified as Jakhlu Kharia, from Gholni, a branch of the Sankosh River in the Balapara area under Chengmari Gram Panchayat (GP) of Kumargram Block in Alipurduar district.
According to reports, Jakhlu Kharia, a resident of Khariapara, was swept away by the strong current of the Sankosh River while bathing in the Bhatibari area of Madhya Haldibari in Kumargram on Wednesday. Despite continuous search efforts, the elderly man could not be located. On Thursday morning, speed boats were deployed in the search operation, leading to the recovery of the deceased’s body in the afternoon. Upon receiving the news, Kumargram police reached the location and subsequently transported the body for post-mortem examination.
