Siliguri, 09th June: A 12-year-old girl has allegedly been subjected to prolonged abuse by an elderly man in Siliguri, triggering tension in the area.
According to local sources, the girl had been living with her grandmother in a rented house along with her siblings after her father’s death and her mother leaving home. It is alleged that the elderly man residing in the same house had been physically abusing the minor for a long time.
Locals further said that one of her siblings is currently missing, adding to growing concern in the area.
On Monday, residents found the girl near the Eastern Bypass area in a distressed condition. She was rescued by locals, who then informed members of the Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum.
After speaking to the minor and learning about the alleged incident, forum members accompanied her to the Ashighar Outpost on Tuesday and lodged a written complaint.
