Massive fire brought down four houses to ashes in Siliguri

Siliguri, 17th March: A tragic incident surfaced where a fire in a residence in Durga Nagar area of Ward No. 40 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) resulted in the destruction of four houses.


Reportedly, on Saturday afternoon, amid the busy schedule of the day people noticed smoke emerging out in the said area which turned into flames in no time. Gradually the fire engulfed the nearby houses. The panic driven locals first attempted bringing the fire under control. Additionally, two lpg gas cylinders exploded one after the other which worsened the prevailing situation.

Upon being alerted, two fire engines from Siliguri reached the spot and promptly initiated the fire extinguishing process. After about two hours of valient efforts, the situation was brought under control. However, by then about four houses were burnt to ashes leaving the families homeless.


After receiving the information about the incident, Ward Councilor Rajesh Prasad Sah alias Munna also arrived at the spot and spoke to the victims. In this regard, the Ward Councilor stated that four houses were gutted in the fire and two gas cylinders also exploded. He added that the fire was brought under control with the promptness of the local people and the fire fighters. There is no news of any casualty in the incident.
