Siliguri, 01st March: A person has been arrested by the Khalpara outpost police and produced in Siliguri court today on the charge of attempting to immolate his wife. The arrested accused has been identified as Pancharatna Gupta, a resident of Milanpalli.
According to the information received, last Saturday Pancharatna Gupta tried to kill his wife Upasana Gupta by setting her on fire. She sustained severe burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
The victim’s daughter said that the incident happened when she was at her aunt’s house on Saturday. She demanded strict punishment for her accused father.
Upasana Gupta’s brother Anupam Gupta said that his brother-in-law Pancharatna Gupta was a drug addict. He demanded strict punishment for the culprit.
The arrested accused was produced at Siliguri court today. Police have launched an investigation into the whole incident,
