Kharibari, 19th July: A man was arrested in connection with an alleged land fraud case involving a property at Panthabari Mouza under Buraganj Gram Panchayat in Kharibari. The accused, Debraj Rai, was taken into custody based on a complaint lodged by Hiren Gope.
According to the complainant, the land was purchased by Palash Sarkar in 2005, while Hiren Gope and his brother also owned land within the same plot. In 2006, Palash allegedly granted Hiren Adhiyar (sharecropping) rights over his portion of the land. Even after Palash later went missing, Hiren claimed he continued cultivating the land under those rights.
Hiren alleged that in 2024, a group involved in an alleged land fraud scheme used an imposter posing as Palash Sarkar to sell the land to Debraj Rai. After the land was registered in his name, Debraj allegedly sold it to three other individuals within a short span of time. The complainant claimed the three individuals are part of a syndicate involved in the local land trade.
According to Hiren, a fresh complaint was filed on June 28 after earlier complaints allegedly failed to result in any action. He further alleged that following the latest complaint, Amit Barui, Dipankar Mondal, and Swapan Sarkar threatened and intimidated him.
Based on the fresh complaint, police arrested Debraj Rai. The complainant has demanded the arrest of the three other individuals allegedly involved in the case. Police are continuing their investigation.
