Mamkhola Tragedy: Anit Thapa donates Rs 50,000 to families of missing workers

Kalimpong, 31st July: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha-2 acting chairman Anit Thapa met the families of Bikash Tamang and Arun Rai, who went missing in the Mamkhola tragedy on National Highway 10. Thapa reached Kalimpong on Friday evening and met the grieving families of the two missing workers. He handed over Rs 50,000 each to the families of Bikash and Arun as compensation from the party fund.


It is to recall, in the wee hours of Friday, due to incessant rain the stream water washed away the workers working at railway project at Mamkhola.


Addressing the media, Anit Thapa stated, “Loss of life is painful. I will raise the issue with General Manager of Railways. I suggest that the local people should form a Disaster Committee and work. Development can take place on its own but life is more important.”
