Mamata in Hills: Mamata calls people to unite against NRC and CAA

Darjeeling, 22nd January: Addressing a gathering in Darjeeling’s Motor Stand, State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once again claimed that the CAA and NRC will not be allowed to be implemented in Bengal at any cost. Banerjee accused the BJP government of doing politics based on religion and caste. The Chief Minister further appealed to the people of Bengal belonging to different caste, religion, and sect to unite against the NRC and CAA.


During her speech, the TMC supremo asserted that she can even give her life to protect the people of the Hills. She called upon the people to unite against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA), National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). She also chanted slogans with thousands of people present at the end of the meeting.


A protest rally led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also taken out in Darjeeling against the CAA and NRC before the meeting, in which a large number of people including Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters, 16 development boards members, representatives of various organizations and religious organizations participated.

 

MP Shanta Chhetri, NBDD Chairman Amar Singh Rai, GTA Chairman Anit Thapa, Hill Trinamool Congress President LB Rai, GJM President Binay Tamang, Darjeeling Municipal Chairman Prativa Rai Tamang also attended the event.
