Leopard brutally killed by forest workers: Animal rights activists staged silent protest in Siliguri

Siliguri, 17th December: In a shocking incident, an adult leopard was brutally beaten by forest workers and then shot dead, on Wednesday evening. The incident triggered protests among the animal rights groups.


The Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum, SNAP, and ‘Ei Prajanma’ organizations staged a silent demonstration near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue next to the Head Post Office in Siliguri. Candles were lighted during the programme.

The demonstrators solely blamed the forest department for the incident. They also pointed fingers at the range officer and maintained that a complaint has been lodged against him. The animal rights activists demanded punishment of the range officer.
