Landslides devastate North Sikkim; 34 stranded people airlifted to safety

Pakyong, 03rd June: Continuous heavy rains have triggered severe landslides across North Sikkim, causing widespread destruction and blocking roads in multiple areas. Among the most affected was Chaten, where 34 people were stranded due to the landslides.


On Tuesday morning, a major rescue operation was conducted, and all 34 individuals were successfully airlifted to safety. According to the state’s IPR department, two MI-17 helicopters and five additional choppers were deployed for the mission. The rescued included injured army personnel, their families, and tourists.

All rescued individuals were brought safely to Pakyong Greenfield Airport. The injured soldiers were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
