JNU violence: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee condemns assault on students

New Delhi, 6th January: The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday condemned the assault on students and teachers of Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), terming it a “heinous act” and a “shame on democracy”.

She further said “ It is very disturbing, it is a dangerous planted attack on democracy. Anyone who speaks against them is labeled a Pakistani and an enemy of the country. We never saw such a situation in the country before this”

According to reports, a masked mob, allegedly belonging to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), entered the university premises and vandalized the hostel and cars and attacked the students and teachers of the JNU, injuring 35 including the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) President, Aishe Ghosh, on Sunday evening.
